Bio:

According to recent reports, VCU is no longer requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for students, effective immediately.

This decision came after a lengthy discussion between VCU officials and the student body, as well as consideration of recent guidance from the CDC and local health departments.

The university stated that while they continue to strongly encourage vaccination for all members of the VCU community, they recognize that individual circumstances may vary, and that mandating the vaccine could create undue burden for some students.

However, the university will continue to require all students to follow other COVID-19 safety protocols, such as mask-wearing and social distancing, in accordance with CDC guidelines.

It's important to note that this decision only applies to students, and faculty and staff are still required to be fully vaccinated in order to work on campus.

We will continue to update you on any further developments on this story. This is Jessica Johnson, reporting for you.
