As election day arrives, you may have seen people outside of polling stations handing out sample ballots geared towards a specific party. These campaigners are hoping to influence undecided voters and sway them towards their party's candidates. But why do they wait until the last minute to campaign?
According to Lionel Jordan, a Democratic campaigner, most people have already made up their minds before arriving at the polls. However, there are still some who come seeking guidance, and sample ballots can help them make a decision. In fact, some voters specifically ask for the sample ballots because they don't know who they're voting for.
Despite the effort put into campaigning and handing out sample ballots, some voters like Henrico voter Ernesto Matamoros believe they are not too effective. By the time they arrive at the polls, they have already made up their minds.
It's important to remember that voters have the right to make their own decisions, and should not be influenced by others. Sample ballots can be helpful for those who are undecided or new to the political process, but ultimately it is up to the individual voter to make an informed decision based on their own beliefs and values.
As the election results come in, we can reflect on the importance of democracy and the power of individual voices. Whether or not the sample ballots had an impact, it's up to us to hold our elected officials accountable and work towards creating a better future for ourselves and our communities.
