Role :

Technical Director

Executive Producer

Studio Manager

Bio:

As a college student, it can be tough to find opportunities to get involved and build up your portfolio. But when I was given the chance to be the first-ever Technical Director for my school's newsroom capstone course, I knew I had to seize it.

I had always been interested in production and had even shadowed some directors at NBC12 over the summer, so I felt confident taking on this role. My professors gave me a studio handbook and told me I would start the next week as the director - a new role created just for me.

Each week, I came in early to set up the studio, from the lights to the cameras. I assigned students to production roles and train them. Once I approved show schedules and scripts with the producers, I direct with NewTek TriCaster and audio mixer. We typically do 2-3 takes before calling a wrap. After the show, I add the finishing touches while discussing what went wrong and what went great with my professor.

Throughout my time in this role, I've had the opportunity to experiment and pitch new ideas. I'm grateful for this opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build my skills as a producer.
