Bio:

As a documentary producer and motion graphics designer, I had the opportunity to work on a project during my final semester at VCU that allowed me to experiment with Adobe After Effects. Working in a team of three, we spent the semester creating a documentary that was not only engaging but visually stunning as well.

Throughout the process, I was able to create some unique motion graphics that really brought the project to life. One of my favorite pieces was a countdown that I created using coding within After Effects. This allowed me to play with the 3D camera effect and the lamp effect to create a floor-like environment that really stood out.

Another project that I am particularly proud of is a book motion graphic that I created from scratch. Using the coding and 3D camera effects once again, I was able to create a piece that highlighted the colors of the books adjacent to the actual books. I also incorporated masking for the highlighter, which I found to be surprisingly easy. This project was the first solo piece that I made on After Effects and really allowed me to dive deep into the software and its capabilities.

As we worked on the documentary, I also had the opportunity to create custom lower thirds and locators. Building these from scratch was the best way to make them unique to our project, and I found that I was able to create them quickly since I had a good understanding of After Effects by that point. The only tricky part was learning to export transparent and saving them as a preset, but once I had that down, it was smooth sailing.

Overall, I am thrilled with the final result of our documentary, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented team. I am also grateful for the YouTube and LinkedIn Learning tutorials that helped me along the way. It was an incredible experience to see my motion graphics come to life on the big screen, and I am excited to continue honing my skills as a documentary producer and motion graphics designer.

Final Project : 24 hours
